Subject: The Whole-Body Approach to Osteoporosis
One of the most frightening things for me when I was first diagnosed with osteoporosis (besides not knowing what the heck was going on inside me that would cause this potentially debilitating disease) was not having anyone to talk to that understood
my feelings of vulnerability, fragility, weakness and despair. I felt embarrassed (I know…crazy huh?…but really I did!) that I had “let myself get this way”….when in reality it had nothing to do with being negligent of my health. I was totally confused and afraid to move for fear of breaking.
Doctors just wanted to put me on drugs and didn’t seem to be interested in trying to figure out why I had such severe bone loss or how to improve my bone health. They just wanted to boost my bone density (which is an index that I found out later which does not equate to bone strength). They really didn’t understand the difference between bone density and bone health. What I found, though years and years of study and working with my body, was that I was able to improve my bone health…my bone strength…through ways other than drugs. And through these methods I would not only improve my bone health but also my overall health.
In this short seminar in Florida I will explain bone loss and why a little known fact…that an osteoclast is a form of a white blood cell…is so important to understanding and conquering osteoporosis. (I will guarantee you that, unfortunately, most doctors do not realize this!) I will take you through some of the most important points you need to know to improve your skeletal health and reduce your fracture risk. Then Irma will talk about diet and what foods are important for improving bone health. We will end the afternoon with a delicious organic bone-loving dinner.
But best of all…you will be spending an afternoon with like-minded people who are on the same journey as yourself. It will be a time not only to connect with me and Irma but also others who understand. I think this is a huge part of dealing with this disease, and a huge part of healing from it. Osteoporosis can take away so much of your confidence, so much of of who you are…but it doesn’t have to.
